I had an hour today in my garden tucked away in my one man bird hide as I was determined to get a better shot or two of the Brambling Hen that is visiting my garden at the moment. I had to wait a while before the birds dropped in a few times along with all the Chaffinches and two images of the stunning little finch can be seen below…
In the quiet moments in the hide when the Brambling and Chaffinches had moved away for a while I managed to also get my first images of Long Tailed Tits in my garden, now they normally don’t come in to the feeders in my back garden but the cold snap is forcing them to be a little braver to feed and survive, it did not stay long as the rest of its ‘team’, around 12 more LTT’s, had moved on towards Green Lane but it managed to get a few pecks in at a fat block feeder before moving away to meet its brethren.
The Lesser Redpolls (normally in with Goldfinches) are still around my garden too feeding on and off during the day and whilst in the hide this bird seen below dropped in for a feed too, lovely!
So sometimes this old garden birding can pay dividends but I must try to get out wider afield this weekend, maybe to Norfolk to catch up with the Black Bellied Dipper? Weather permitting of course!
