We always get a Turtle Dove or two here in Fulbeck but although I had heard from a near neighbour that he had seen one under his feeders I hadn’t heard nor seen any sign myself. I was delighted when I got a phone call from said neighbour that he had one on his lawn and as he was just about to mow it he thought I might like a gander before he scared the birds off. So I rushed over with my camera only to discover that I had the Canon lens plus 1.4x converter on the Olympus camera which has to be manually focused and on a tripod which I didn’t have with me and the bird had flown off to the depths of an Alder tree about 15 metres away. However with a bit of juggling with the net curtains and through a slightly dirty window I managed a couple of record shots handheld before it disappeared completely:
