Back on the patch this female yellow wagtail is feeding young, very close to the main track, near the car park. Similar to the one that bred last year, it has a slightly different head colour, though not as well marked, probably an intermediate flava/flavissima or perhaps an offspring of last year’s bird.


In the reeds a noisy water rail showed briefly, first one for quite a while. At least one cuckoo is still around. About 25 lapwings are on the old leek field along with two oystercatchers. No other new waders but I suspect the first green sands will appear any time now.
