Derwent valley, Peak District.
It was great to be part of this peaceful protest, highlighting the sad demise of our birds of prey in the English uplands. Torrential rain didn’t stop people turning out, 570 heads was the official count, ( this number being similar to the number of hen harriers that England should support, but currently there are just three known pairs).
The driven grouse hunting practices and over-management of the moors are to blame and people have decided that enough is enough. See the following links for more details. If you haven’t already done so sign the petition, there are 13,000+ signatures so far.
Mark Avery was ably assisted by Chris Packham, who made a passionate speech.
