Whist I was away yesterday at Tring, Herts., Trev Lee came across a jack snipe at MSTW, (see previous posting). I had a look this morning, didn’t expect to find it in the cool north wind, not to mention some bloody escaped sheep wandering around in the exact area! Never mind.
At Wilstone reservoir a drake common scoter was nice to see, about as far away from the sea as you can get in this country.
A pair of gorgeous mandarins showed up along with a barnacle goose. A couple of sand martins were overhead. Red kites are very abundant in the Chilterns and several were seen today.
We were lucky to get an eyeful of the eclipse in Tring, it was thick cloud but cleared a bit providing ideal viewing through the cloud.
